Description of the project:

The project is aimed at solving the key problem of fusion reactors - the development of a heat shield protecting the reactor vessel from the extreme flow of plasma energy. Within the COMPASS infrastructure, the equipment will enable research into advanced materials, including liquid metal technology, in the presence of fast neutrons and extreme heat flows relevant to future ITER / DEMO reactors. This makes it one of the key facilities in fusion plasma energy research within the European EUROfusion consortium.

European Structural and Investment Funds.

The project is co-financed by EU.
