Studie pojednává o špičkové gastronomii v Československu v době od nastolení komunistického režimu v roce 1948 do konce šedesátých let. Autor nejprve připomíná zdejší tradici haute cuisine v meziválečné éře, kdy bylo Československo na gastronomické mapě Evropy jednoznačnou periferií, snažící se adaptovat podněty z vyspělejších center. Toto úsilí dostalo zásadní ránu již za druhé světové války, a jestliže po roce 1945 přes všechny poválečné potíže bylo možné doufat v pozitivní obrat, tak důsledky změn v roce 1948 byly naprosto drtivé a haute cuisine byla z české, respektive československé kultury na delší dobu prakticky vymazána. Autor v tomto textu ohledává politické a diplomatické vztahy mezi Velkou Británií a Československem mezi lety 1919 a 1939 prizmatem Mnichovské dohody na podzim 1938. Zaměřuje se na nevalný výběr britských diplomatů v Praze mezi válkami a ukazuje, že byl důsledkem „kultu nevědomosti“ v britských diplomatických službách. Britové dávali přednost sudetoněmecké šlechtě před Čechy a Slováky, což se zřetelně projevilo během mediační mise lorda Runcimana v roce 1938. It argues that although the books deal with very different topics and have been created at research institutions with varied backgrounds, they share the approach of studying parliamentary cultures. This perspective has the capacity to include rhetorical, procedural, social, gender, visual and other characteristics in the analysis and as such represents a rare opportunity to make political history research highly relevant, sensitive and interdisciplinary.

The movement emerged in the early 20^th century and its popularity lasted throughout the whole of the century. In the book under review, five cultural historians describe the history of the tramping movement in Czechoslovakia in admirable detail and also provide supplementary material and unique pictures. The reviewer welcomes the analysis of a highly interesting and academically overlooked phenomenon and recommends a shortened version for publication in English.
