Researcher at the Department of Musicology with specialisation in the history of operetta.

David Vondráček studied music pedagogy, musicology, Czech and German linguistics and literature in Munich. In 2018, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Munich (LMU) with a dissertation on the music of Jaroslav Ježek, supervised by prof. Hartmut Schick. He has been teaching a wide range of music-historical classes at LMU and subsequently at Charles University Prague. Vondráček also worked in the sound archive of the Bavarian Radio (BR) and for De Gruyter press (Deutsches Theaterlexikon).

Research interests: Czech music of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; modernist tendencies in Eastern and Southeastern Europe; musical nationalism and cultural transfer; music theater including melodrama; popular music and jazz; the Viennese classics and Schubert; the history of piano music; solitary figures in music history such as Emánuel Moór and George Enescu.
