Petr Kratochvíl studied philosophy and psychology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (1974). In  1990, he received the title Csc. in art history from what was then the Institute of Theory and History of Art. In 2009, he became Associate Professor of architecture history and theory of heritage protection  (Faculty of Architecture, CTU) and since 2014 he has been full Professor. He has been employed with the IAH CAS (formerly ÚTDU ČSAV) since 1986 and he also teaches at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, TUL. Kratochvíl focuses on the history of modern and contemporary architecture and urbanism with a particular interest in current problems of urban public space.
