cordially invite you to a lecture with a discussion within the seminar series "ITAM Seminar"

Fiber optic sensors for measurement not only in critical infrastructures

which he will be given by

Ing. Břetislav Mikel, Ph.D.

Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, Brno

In recent years, systems using optical and fiber optic sensors to measure the physical properties of materials and structures have become increasingly widespread. The number of their installations and at the same time the range of applications is constantly growing. One of the most widely used principles is fiber optic sensor systems with Bragg gratings. These are special structures formed in an optical fiber, the spectrum of the reflected radiation of which depends on the change in the length of the optical fiber in which they are formed. Such devices are able to eliminate problems of most electrical sensors. The sensors are characterized by high radiation resistance, they are able to measure at high temperatures and at the same time they are insensitive to most external electromagnetic radiation. Fiber Bragg grating sensors and their control systems have been developed in recent years in the group of Coherence Optics at ÚPT AVČR. One of the systems created here in cooperation with industrial partners is currently installed at the Temelín NPP and will monitor the containments of the both units. Last but not least, we also develop fiber optic sensors for measuring the level of ionizing radiation for use not only in nuclear power plants but also for cyclotrons, etc.

The lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 2 pm in in the UTAM building in Prague - Prosek. If requested, we can arrange a stream via zoom.
