Public

The Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) presents a number of projects aimed at making the Czech science closer to the public. These projects include, for example, the Week of Science and Technology, the Earth Day, the Spring Excursion to the World of Science, Brain Awareness Week or Don't Fear Science. What we regard as important is that the activities enable meeting of researchers with the public and mutual discussion.

The Week of Science and Technology of the Czech Academy of Sciences is the biggest scientific festival in the Czech Republic, which gives visitors an opportunity to visit lectures, exhibitions, excursions, scientific cafes, documentary film projections, and thus look into scientific workplaces, laboratories and libraries and find out "how science is done."

The CAS joins the celebrations of the Earth Day, which has been observed worldwide on 22 April since 1971, by organising a series of interesting events focused on Earth sciences in April.

The evening discussion cycle Third Dimension supplements and extends commonly available information and mediates a view of the world as seen through the eyes of science. The topics of meetings of experts range from technology, medicine, astronomy or history to more general questions on the verge of philosophy.

Experts focusing on the research of brain activity in Europe and the United States meet annually in March to inform the general public about new findings in the area of neuroscience and the cure of brain diseases within a cycle of lectures called Brain Awareness Week.

Academia publishing house organises launches of books by important authors. For planned events, see www.academia.cz.
