Tomáš Hlobil studied Czech and German studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. In 1992, he received his Ph.D. in aesthetics there. Between 1993 and 2017, he worked at the Faculty of Arts, Palacký University in Olomouc as an assistant professor, associate professor (2000) and full professor (2004). Since 1996, he has been a professor in the Department of Aesthetics at Charles University. In 2018, Hlobil became a researcher at the IAH CAS. He focuses on the history of general aesthetics, general art theory and theory of art between the end of the 17th century and the mid-19th century. His special areas of interest include early history of Czech aesthetic thought and the theory and history of aesthetic historiography.
