One of our latest papers characterizes a novel type of yeast transporters that we have named Vhc1.
This transporter is localized in the membranes of vacuoles and its activity enables Yeast cells to cope with sudden changes in osmotic pressure. This transporter is homologous to the proteins of CCC (cation-chloride-cotransporter) family that are very important in mammalian cells and whose dysfunction leads to serious diseases. Consequently, we have expressed one of the human CCC proteins in cells and characterized its properties.
