Tanousia zrmanjae je drobný plž (kolem 4 mm) popsaný v roce 1866 z řeky Zrmanja v Chorvatsku. V současné době pravděpodobně žije na naší planetě pouze jediný druh tohoto rodu, zatímco z minulosti je rod Tanousia znám ze sedimentů řek v nížinách mnoha evropských zemí z intergalaciálů mladého a středního pleistocénu starých až 700 tisíc let. Bohužel i tomuto druhu hrozí vyhynutí. Znám je pouze z krátkého úseku řeky Zrmanja – zde byl nalezen pouze na dvou místech, z nichž na jednom v průběhu posledních let vymizel.

Tanousia zrmanjae is a small snail (approximately 4 mm) described in 1866 from the river Zrmanja in Croatia. Currently, only one species of this genus probably lives on our planet, while in the past the genus Tanousia is known from many European countries from river sediments in the lowlands of the intergalacials of the young and middle Pleistocene up to 700 thousands years old. Unfortunately, even this species is in danger of extinction. It is known only from a short section of the river Zrmanja and it has only been found here in two sites, one of which has disappeared in recent years.
