The publication completes a four-part editorial project focusing on composer Joseph Brentner (1689–1742). The volume’s core is a critical edition of the collection of sacred arias Hymnodia Divina published as opus 3 in Prague in 1719, forming a remarkable pandanus to Brentner's first collection of arias from 1716. The volume also includes one aria and three solo motets composed later and known only from manuscript sources. The compositions provide valuable material for studying musical creativity in Baroque Bohemia, allowing us to trace the composer’s creative development and reflect his response to the changing musical paradigm in the second and third decades of the 18th century. At the same time, these are compositions of quality and invention that attracted attention in their time and can appeal to musicians and listeners even today.
