A group of European science journalists EUSJA (European Association of Journalists) visited our detached laboratory in Lysolaje on 15 March, 2013
The newly built Nanotechnology Laboratory was officially opened on March 14, 2013. The celebration was attended by the Chairman of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic prof. Jiří Drahoš and the Vice-Chairman prof. Miroslav Tuma.
The Institute donated clothing and other items to children and mothers at the Infant Ward of Thomayer Hospital in Krč and the Women and Children's Shelter in Holešovice.
Prof. Sajeev John will have a presentation on Photonic Band Gap Materials: Light Trapping Crystals. The presentation will be held in English, on Monday 9.7. 2012 at 11 o'clock. in the big hall of our institute.
Our Laboratory of Optical Fibers took part in the Prague Museum Night 2012 on Saturday 9th June between 7 p.m. and 1 .a.m. at the National Technical Library in Dejvice, Prague 6.
Prof. Jiří Homola assumed the position of Director of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics AS CR, v.v.i. effective June 1, 2012.
Ondřej Borovec received the golden medal from the prestigious international competition for young engineers and scientists I-SWEEEP. He won it for his work "The quantum and superlattice structures - the future of thermoelectric" which was the result of his internship project at the Open Science (Otevřená věda) with Radek Zeipl, PhD. from the Institute of Photonics and Electronics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, v. v. i.
For achievements in optical biosensing, Assoc. Prof. Jiří Homola, Ph.D., DSc. was elected SPIE Fellow.
The new chairman of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Ing. Jiří Čtyroký, DrSc. was elected on sixth October 2011.
During the neutrino velocity measurement within the OPERA experiment, the GTR50 measurement setup was used for independent time calibration between CERN and LNGS. This device is a result of cooperation between the Time and Frequency Department of the Institute of Photonics and Electronics and the company Dicom Uherské Hradiště.
