Scientists win an international award for a unique heart diagnostic technology

VDI monitor, or, a simple and non-invasive way to implant a pacemaker as efficiently as possible. This particular technology, developed by scientists from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS in Brno in collaboration with partners, won the Technology and Innovation Showcase in early April, which was a part of the European Heart Rhythm Association 2022 international conference in Copenhagen.

The new VDI monitor technology displays the electrical activation of the heart chambers in a non-invasive way.  "The VDI monitor is a completely new device that uses the original idea of ultra-high-frequency ECG. This technology represents a revolutionary approach in cardiology and is a source of new information," says Pavel Jurák from the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the CAS, who presented the technology on behalf of the research team in Copenhagen.

In his opinion, the main application area is cardiac pacing treatment. "Thanks to its comfortable use and real-time solutions, VDI technology enables easier and more efficient implementation of new cardiac pacing procedures that significantly increase the quality and length of life," explains Pavel Jurák.

The European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) international conference was attended by over 4,300 top cardiologists and researchers. The VDI won in the category of contribution to technologies and innovations, with a total of 16 technologies registered from all over the world.

The VDI technology has become the basis for a new start-up of the same name, co-developed by the Institute of Scientific Instruments together with other partners who participated in its development, including St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno, Charles University, and Cardion company.
