Cancer is frequently associated with alterations in metabolism, the most severe of them cancer cachexia. Cachexia is a wasting disease characterized by loss of muscle and adipose tissue, inflammation, and cardiovascular complications, and represents a major clinical challenge due to negative consequences for cancer treatment and survival. Cachexia is caused directly by tumor-secreted factors but also by crosstalk between different tissues, which leads to metabolic re-programming. I will discuss our recent advances in better understanding these tissue crosstalk mechanisms and their consequences on the molecular and systemic level.
