Starting Research Career Infrastructure Services in Heritage Science

Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences operates specialised research infrastructure for heritage science and provides services for interdisciplinary research in the field. The STARCAIS programme offers infrastructure support to young researchers – Ph.D. students or post-docs - at the beginning of their career.

Starting Research Career Infrastructure Services in Heritage Science

 

Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences operates specialised research infrastructure for heritage science and provides services for interdisciplinary research in the field.

 
The STARCAIS programme offers infrastructure support to young researchersPh.D. students or post-docs - at the beginning of their career. Persons interested in such a support are asked to submit a research task proposal briefly describing the desired research infrastructure services involving any of the following:
 
A. Combined medium aero-elastic and climatic wind tunnel capable of simulating weather events producing the combined loading oh historical materials or heritage structure models.
 
B. X-ray 3D Computed Tomography (CT) technology for non-destructive scanning that makes it possible to view and inspect the external and internal structures of heritage objects in 3D space.
 
C. A mobile laboratory equipped with in the only devices of their kind in the world for in-situ non- or semi-destructive investigations into heritage structures and buildings.
 
D. An experimental lime kiln and laboratories for investigating lime technologies under Innovative Training Network MC H2020 2021-2025 on the Interdisciplinary Studies of Pre-modern Plasters and Ceramics from the Eastern Mediterranean.
 
E. The digitization of small- and medium- sized cultural heritage objects utilizing custom-built devices for automatic image acquisition implementing motion and photometric stereo optical methods as well as methods for the detection of artifact defects based on thermal and radiographic imaging.
 
The task proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the quality of the research plan and its compatibility with ITAM's Heritage Science research interests as formulated by the Research Council.
 
Successful applicants will then be provided with the stipulated services free of charge on the basis of an service grant agreement.
