Chat s astronomkou
Věděli jste, že Annie Cannon (1863 - 1941) vytvořila dnešní klasifikaci hvězd OBAFGKM, která je založena na jejich spektrálních vlastnostech? Nebo, že Jocelyn Bell (1943 - ) objevila zvláštní rádiové signály, které označila jako "malé zelené mužíčky" a které, jak se později ukázalo, pocházejí z rychle rotujících kompaktních hvězd vyzařujících velmi pravidelné pulsy, tzv. pulsarů? V minulosti se sice našly výjimečné ženy, které měly štěstí a mohly se věnovat své vášni pro studium astronomie, bohužel často byla práce těchto průkopnic spíše upozaděna. Naštěstí, časy se mění!
Rády bychom s vámi oslavily Mezinárodní den žen a dívek ve vědě!
A jak lépe oslavit tento významný den než tím, že umožníme všem zájemcům kontakt s profesionálními astronomkami a astrofyzičkami pracujícími v České republice, aby tak s vámi mohly sdílet své znalosti a zkušenosti! To je právě "Chat s astronomkou!".
Ve čtvrtek 17. února 2022 od 10 do 20 hodin budete mít možnost chatu s kteroukoliv naší astronomkou. Níže najdete jejich krátké představení, abyste je trochu poznali, ještě než si začnete povídat. Můžete si připravit běžné otázky nebo kreativní otázky, je to zcela na vás!
17. února bude přístupný chat (viz ikonka v dolním levém rohu stránky), ve kterém si můžete povídat s některou z našich astronomek. Ovšem pokud byste rádi hovořili s konkrétní astronomkou, prosím, zmiňte to hned na začátku. Jelikož je vědecká scéna velmi mezinárodní, pracují mezi námi kolegyně, které mluví česky, stejně tak ale ty, které češtinu neovládají. Z každou z nich je ovšem možné mluvit v angličtině. Přímo v jejich medailonku níže naleznete, kterým jazykem se s vámi domluví.

Did you know that Annie Cannon (1863-1941) was the creator of the current stellar classification, OBAFGKM, based on the stellar spectra? Or that Jocelyn Bell (1943- ) discovered a strange radio signal -which she called "Little Green Men"- that turned out to be rapidly rotating compact stars that emit very regular pulses of radiation, or pulsars? During past times there were exceptional and lucky women that could follow their passion and study Astronomy. Yet, quite often their work was kept behind the scenes. Lucky us, times change!
We would like to celebrate with all of you the International Day of Women and Girls in Science !
And what better way to celebrate this special day than to bring together female professional Astronomers working in the Czech Republic and to put their knowledge and experiences within reach of everyone interested in chatting with them? That is Chat s Astronomkou! Inspired by 'Chatea con una Astrónoma', chat organised by the Spanish Astronomical Society.
On Thursday, 17th February 2022 from 10h to 20h you will be able to have a chat with one of our Astronomers. Below you can find a brief description of all of them so you can get to know them before the chat! Start thinking about work-related questions, career questions, creative questions... it is up to you :)
A chat box (see the bottom left corner of the page) will be available on the 17th of February. From there, you will be connected to one of the Astronomers. However, if you are interested in talking to a specific Astronomer, mention it at the beginning. Please, be aware that, as international as science is, there will be Czech and non-Czech astronomers answering your questions. Under their description you can check in which language each Astronomer can chat.

Barbora Doležalová je česká astronomka pracující na Masarykově univerzitě (Brno). Můžete s ní chatovat česky.
Barbora Doležalová studuje vzácné horké hvězdy se silným větrem (Wolf-Rayetovy hvězdy), stejně jako dvojhvězdy; také modeluje hvězdná spektra, aby lépe porozuměla vlastnostem hvězd. Ve volném čase ráda dělá jógu, jezdí na koloběžce, čte, píše, cestuje a jde na túru
Barbora Doležalová is a Czech astronomer working at Masaryk university (Brno). She studies rare hot stars with strong winds (Wolf-Rayet stars), as well as binary stars; she also models stellar spectra to better understand the stars’ properties. In her free time she enjoys doing yoga, footbiking, reading, writing, traveling and hiking! You can chat with Barbora in Czech.
Elena Dzifčáková je slovenská astronomka pracující a Astronomickém ústavu Akademie věd ČR v Ondřejově. Můžete s ní chatovat česky, slovensky nebo anglicky.
Elena studuje vnější sluneční atmosféru. Aby lépe poznala její vlastnosti, provádí a navrhuje spektroskopickou diagnostiku přechodové oblasti, sluneční koróny a erupcí. Ve volném čase má ráda přírodu, turistiku a lyžování.
Elena Dzifčáková is a Slovak astronomer working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). She studies the outer solar atmosphere. She does and proposes spectroscopic diagnostics of the transition region, solar corona and flares to know better their properties. During her free time she enjoys outdoors, hiking and skiing. Soňa Ehlerová se zabývá mezihvězdnou hmotou, tvorbou hvězd a galaxiemi (její oblíbenou galaxií je Mléčná dráha a oblíbenou fází mezihvězdného prostředí neutrální vodík). Ráda popularizuje astronomii a vědu (občas mívá veřejné přednášky, účastní se vědeckých veletrhů, vymýšlí dílničky na dnech otevřených dveří ASÚ). Pomáhá organizovat popularizační akce Mezinárodní astronomické unie v České republice (jako třeba Pojmenuj exoplanetu). Ve volném čase nejraději ze všeho řeší záhady a zachraňuje svět ve hrách na hrdiny (Dungeons & Dragons ji provází ještě o něco déle než astronomie).
Soňa Ehlerová is a Czech astronomer working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Spořilov, Prague). Her research interests include interstellar matter, star formation and galaxies (her favourite galaxy is our Milky Way and her favourite phase of the interstellar medium is the neutral hydrogen). Soňa likes to popularize astronomy and science (by giving talks, participating in Science Fairs, organizing hands-on activities during the open door days at the Institute), she also helps to organize IAU - International Astronomical Union - outreach activities in the Czech Republic (e.g. the Name Exoplanet event). In her spare time she enjoys role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons! You can chat with Soňa in Czech.
Zabývá se Sluncem. Analyzuje magnetické pole na povrchu Slunce a snaží se pochopit, jak magnetické pole ovlivňuje vnitřní konvekci a vytváří tmavé struktury (póry nebo sluneční skvrny). Používá pozorování z družic, ale občas také jezdí pozorovat na Kanárské ostrovy. Marta přednášela astronomii pro studenty středních škol a také pro širokou veřejnost na vědeckých veletrzích. Účastnila se španělské verze "Chat s astronomkou". Ve volném čase leze ráda po horách, běhá se svým psem, skládá skládačky, s nadšením bojuje s češtinou, kterou by se ráda naučila, a snaží se poznat Českou republiku!
Marta García Rivas comes from Salamanca (Spain) and she is a PhD student at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her work focuses on the Sun. She analyses magnetic fields on the surface of the Sun and tries to understand how the magnetic fields affect inner convection to form dark structures as pores or sunspots. Datasets from satellites are always available but she also likes to go observing to Canary islands to run her studies. She has given popular talks in Science Fairs, as well as lectures in Astronomy for high school teachers. She has also participated in the spanish version of 'Chat s Astronomkou'. In her free time she enjoys hiking, running with her dog, doing jigsaws and, she especially enjoys struggling to learn czech and getting to know Czech Republic! Romana Grossová je slovenská astronomka působící v Astronomickém ústavu Akademie věd ČR (Spořilov, Praha) a na Masarykově univerzitě (Brno). Můžete s ní chatovat slovensky nebo anglicky.
Studuje aktivitu černých děr ve obrovských eliptických galaxiích ale taktiež se zaměřuje na studium galaxií, jejichž plyn je při pohybu do centra kupy galaxii při vysokých relativních rychlostech strháván a vytváří tak obrovské ohony za galaxií. Kvůli tomuto tvaru se tyto galaxie často nazývají galatické medúzy. Ve volném čase ráda leze, jezdí na kole, běhá, lyžuje.
Romana Grossova is a Slovak astronomer working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Spořilov, Prague) and at Masaryk University (Brno). She is studying the activity of supermassive black holes in giant elliptical galaxies but she is also interested in galaxies, whose gas is being stripped away as they move to the center of a galaxy cluster at high relative velocities creating large tails behind the galaxy. Due to this shape, these galaxies are often called jellyfish galaxies. In her free time, she enjoys climbing, cycling, running, skiing. You can chat with Romana in Slovak and English.

Jana Kašparová is a Czech astronomer working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her research focuses on data analysis and modelling of solar flare emission. She talks about astronomy and astrophysics with her friends and sometimes popularizes science participating in the Open Days organized at the Institute. Lenka Kopřivová je původem z České Lípy a pracuje na Oddělení meziplanetární hmoty Astronomického ústavu AV ČR v Ondřejově. Můžete s ní chatovat česky nebo anglicky.
Zabývá se měřením bolidů - tedy velmi jasných meteorů - na videozáznamech z IP kamer. Pracuje také jako průvodkyně na hvězdárně. Ve volném čase dělá komparz u filmu a zajímá se o starověký Egypt.
Lenka Kopřivová comes from Česká Lípa and she works at the Department of Interplanetary Matter at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Ondřejov. Her work consists in processing video records of bolides -she process the videos to study the path of bright meteors crossing the atmosphere! She also works as a tour guide at the Institute. Brankica Kubátová is a Serbian woman working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her research interests are massive, hot stars, stellar winds and atmospheric modelling. She participates in the Open Days organized at the Institute, as well as in the Researchers' Night. During her spare time she spends time with her daughter, does housework, practices yoga or meets with her friends! You can chat with Brankica in Czech or English.
Její výzkum se soustředí na mlhoviny: Tiina chce vědět, proč vypadají právě tak, jak vypadají, a jak se vyvíjejí. Když byla ještě v Estonsku - a někdy i teď - často mluvila o své práci a psala populární články, byla také členkou amatérského astronomického klubu. Dnes ve volném čase ráda cestuje, čte knihy, sportuje, pracuje na zahradě a hraje si s Legem!
Tiina Liimets is from Estonia and she works at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her research focuses on nebulae: she wants to know why they look the way they look and how they evolve. Back in Estonia she used to -and sometimes still does- give interviews to explain her science, as well as to write popular articles. She was also part of an amateur astronomers club, where different activities were organized. In her free time she enjoys travelling, reading books, sports, gardening work and playing with Lego! Galina se zabývá slunečními erupcemi v různých vlnových délkách (od radiového až po rentgenové záření). V Rusku se účastnila mnoha popularizačních aktivit - prováděla na hvězdárně Pulkovo (St. Petersburg), také pomáhala na astronomickém festivalu 'Pulkovofest'. V roce 2015 během zatmění Slunce vysílala živě pořad s názvem Eclipse Breakfast se Seanem Batty (STV) a dalšími doktorandy z Glasgowa. Volný čas věnuje hudbě, hraní na kytaru a piano, cyklistice a cestování!
Galina Motorina is a Russian woman -from Saint Petersburg- working at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her research consists in studying solar flares in a wide electromagnetic energy range: from radio up to X-ray emission. She also participated in popular activities such as tour guiding at Pulkovo observatory (St. Petersburg), or at the Astronomical Fest 'Pulkovofest'. During a solar eclipse in 2015 she took part of the Broadcast live "Eclipse Breakfast" with STV's Sean Batty and Glasgow solar PhD students. Martina je sluneční pozorovatelka na Sluneční patrole. Její hlavní pracovní náplní je pozorování Slunce, fotograficky i vizuálně a předpovídání sluneční aktivity. V létě provádí na hvězdárně v Ondřejově a mívá popularizační přednášky. Ve volném čase čte knihy a věnuje se trampingu a paličkování!
Martina Pavelková is from Chodov -Karlovy Vary- and she works at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her main work consists in observing the Sun, collecting images from different cameras, drawing what she can see with the telescope -like sunspots, faculae...- and forecasting solar events. She also participates in popular activities such as tour guiding at the Institute, giving public talks or writing popular articles in magazines. Julieta se zabývá asteroseismologií, tedy oscilací proměnných hvězd. Tento obor umožňuje studium změn ve vnitřní struktuře hvězd v průběhu jejich evoluce, studium účinků hvězdné rotace a procesů, které způsobí úbytek hmoty ve hmotných hvězdách a další. Mimo práci se v současné době učí hrát na ukulele, studuje češtinu a každý den trénuje jógu. Ráda maluje s akvarely, miluje knihy o filozofii, psychologii, historii a politice. Za nejlíp strávený čas považuje hraní deskových her s přáteli!
Julieta Sánchez Arias is from Argentina and she works at the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Ondřejov). Her research interests lie on the pulsational behaviour that some stars show. The main topic of her research is to link the oscillations of variable stars with their internal structure and their evolutionary status. This field, named asteroseismology, allows her to study a wide variety of astrophysical topics: the changes in the internal structure that stars experience during their evolution, the effect of stellar rotation during their evolution, the processes that trigger mass loss on massive stars, even the internal structure of exoplanets and more. She used to participate in outreach activities back in Argentina. Outside of work she is currently learning how to play the ukelele, studying Czech and trying to do yoga everyday. She likes to paint with watercolours, she loves reading about philosophy, psychology, history and politics and she finds board games as the best way to spend time with friends =) !
