Multifunctional bulk metallic materials with nanocrystalline and ultrafine-grained structure

Abstract

Bulk metallic materials with ultra-fine size of grains and phases offer a fundamental improvement of functional and structural properties of the materilas and thus, substantial extension of their application potential in automotive industry, biomedical implants, energy store and machinery. To accelerate steeply the growth of this prospective field and to reach competitiveness on the European level, an establishment of an interdisciplinary platform is the most effective way for systematic, complex and coordinated research in the country with a machinery tradition. The aim of this project is production of nanocrystalline metallic materials with defined microstructure and prospective properties for application. Top characterization methods enable to create a back control for continuous improvement of materials properties. The goal is: production of forms for severe plastic deformation and for atomization of melts, methodology of 3D diagnostics of nanostructures using PAS and 3D topology of grain boundaries by means of FESEM+FIB+EBSD.
