Lecture "From the search for the active conformation of insulin to the design of potentially therapeutically useful insulin derivatives"
We will present the results of systematic studies with specifically modified analogues of insulin and insulin-like growth factors 1-2 (IGF-1 and 2), which have contributed to a better understanding of how these hormones interact with both isoforms of the insulin receptor, the IGF-1 receptor and the IGF-2 receptor. These studies have also resulted in the discovery of hormone derivatives with significantly altered binding specificities to their receptors. We are currently trying to capitalize on this knowledge and experience to develop new derivatives of insulin and both IGFs that may be useful for the treatment of diseases associated with impaired function of these hormones.
