The research group headed by Dr. Karel Souček conducting a basic and translational research in the field of cancer biology invites scientists to apply for a postdoctoral position. We wish to understand the plasticity of cancer cells in the context of tumor heterogeneity and progression. We consistently strive to publish our findings in reputable scientific journals, develop new methods and collaborate with clinicians to be able to translate our research results to practice. The key components of our daily activities include collaboration between experimentalists, medicinal chemists and clinicians, solidarity among the laboratory team and mentoring of young colleagues.

PROJECT ANNOTATION:

Haspin is an atypical Ser/Thr kinase with a well-described function in normal mitosis, but a largely understudied role in regulating cell cycle interphase, plasticity and cell fate decisions. The project will focus on elucidating differences in the Haspin interactome in interphase and mitosis and its role in cell cycle regulation, plasticity and fate. The research will combine several state-of-the-art methodologies (advanced proteomics, unique chemical probes) into unbiased and hypothesis-driven experimental strategies with the ambition to address important gaps in our understanding of Haspin function, molecular mechanism and regulation in fundamental biological processes. The goal is to advance our understanding of the precise role of this kinase in multiple aspects and contexts and to address its attractiveness as a therapeutic target.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE SHOULD:

  • be self-motivated, independent, team-oriented
  • have received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years.
  • have a publishing record – in the last three years at least two publication outputs. The applicant must be the principal author of at least one publication.
  • have experience in field molecular and cell/cancer biology, biochemistry, or biophysics
  • have experience with research in (cancer) cell cycle and mitosis (an advantage).
  • have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple teams.

APPLICATIONS:

  • a CV (max. two A4 pages) including a summary of work experience, publication activity, involvement in research grants, etc.
  • a cover letter describing motivation and previous experience
  • contact information to at least three referees
  • send applications to Karel Souček at ksoucek@ibp.cz
