Abstract:
Magnetoresistive phenomena span a large set of acronyms such as GMR, TMR, AMR, CMR and AHE, PHE concerning the diagonal and off-diagonal resistivity tensor components, respectively (whereas it should be noted that this list is by no means complete). In this talk, an overview of _only_ the anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) will be given, in the context of all other mentioned acronyms, and its one-and-half century long history commented on. Microscopic mechanisms (intrinsic/extrinsic) of AMR will be discussed and phenomenological approaches explained.
