Zvonek zelený (Chloris chloris), robustně stavěný, zelenožlutý pěvec z čeledi pěnkavovití (Fringillidae) byl Českou společností ornitologickou zvolen ptákem roku 2022. Obývá zejména otevřenou polní krajinu, od druhé poloviny 19. století se ale stahuje i do měst, kde v současnosti pravidelně hnízdí v zahradách a parcích. Ačkoli se dosud vyskytuje na celém území České republiky, v posledním desetiletí došlo k setrvalému výraznému populačnímu poklesu. Příčinou je zřejmě infekční onemocnění trichomonóza způsobené prvokem bičenkou drůbeží (Trichomonas gallinae), jež způsobuje otok jícnu a znemožňuje napadenému jedinci polykat potravu. Protože místem potkávání jedinců a snadného přenosu infekce jsou také krmítka, měla letošní kampaň za úkol seznámit veřejnost s postupem, jak se zachovat v případě nálezu nemocného jedince, a také podnítit diskuzi o oprávněnosti přikrmování ptáků.

The robust, greenish-yellow Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) was voted Bird of the Year 2022 by the Czech Ornithological Society. It mainly inhabits open farmland, but since the second half of the 19th century, it has also migrated to cities, where it now regular­ly breeds in gardens and parks. Although it still occurs throughout the Czech Republic, there has been a persistent and significant population decline over the last decade. The cause is probably the infectious disea­se trichomonosis, caused by the protozoan Trichomonas gallinae, which which causes swelling of the oesophagus and prevents the infected individual from swallowing food. As bird feeders are also a place where birds meet and where the infection is easily transmitted, this year’s campaign was de­signed to inform the public about what to do if a sick bird is found and to stimulate discussion about the justification for bird feeding.
