Aims and Scope

Studia Rudolphina: Bulletin of the Research Center for Art and Culture in the Age of Rudolf II was founded in 2001. It is an international peer-reviewed journal focused on art and culture in the age of Emperor Rudolf II (with overlaps reaching from ca. 1520 to ca. 1620), published once a year. We welcome contributions employing the various spectrum of methodological approaches of art history, also texts based on broader interdisciplinary collaboration with other humanities disciplines. The texts are exclusively published in English and German, if accepted, we can offer to pay for the cost of translation. The journal is indexed in SCOPUS and ERIH plus.

Each issue contains several studies and also shorter contributions in the section called "Prima Idea"; occasionally we launch the section "Fontes", in which archival findings on Rudolphine topics with critical commentary are published. Regular part of our bulletin are sections "Bibliography", containing list of publications on a particular subjects or personal bibliography of Rudolphine prominent researchers. The column "Info" reports about activities of the members of our research centre and occasionally about major events organised by them (conferences and exhibitions). A separate part of our periodical consists of the proceedings from international meetings; the first such item was München – Prag um 1600, published in 2009, and another oneDresden–Pragum 1600 (2018). All articles are provided by short summaries in English which are together edited at the end of each volume.

Authors’ Guidelines

We only accept original manuscripts both in English and German, possibly in other languages with expectation that manuscripts are submitted exclusively to our bulletin. The author should give his/her institutional affiliation as well as postal or e-mail addresses, the text must be accompanied by five key words and a summary in English of no more than 800 characters, if necessary by a list of figures with at least thumbnail pictures. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by members of the editorial board, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to single blind peer review by external reviewers, who are recognized experts in the field. The editors reserve the right to amend the contributions with regard to style and expression, any substantial changes will be made in consultation with the author.

In case of acceptance of the manuscript, the author must inform the editor about whether each image can be published under fair use or if permission must be obtained.  Images should be submitted in a standard format (300 dpi, if possible in TIF format).

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The ethics statements for our bulletin are based on the Code of Conduct Guidelines of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE). 

All the parties involved in the act of publishing (the journal editors, the authors, the peer reviewers and the publisher) are expected to become familiar with the ethical principles attached bellow.
