Scientific Careers from other Perspectives (equal opportunities)
What is gender equality? How to work with the topic not only in the wider society, but also in an organization similar to ours? Where do we actually stand within Europe?

Thanks to the PILATUS project, there will be three pilot lines built in Europe by 2025, covering the entire production cycle of innovative silicon solar panels. Special technologies with contacts on the bottom side will allow solar cells to convert energy with efficiency higher than 26%. In the production of this photovoltaic "Ferrari", the experts also want to minimize its CO2 footprint. In the project, a team from the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the leadership of Martin Ledinský will be involved as well.
Does it make sense to publish a printed journal that deals with the promotion of physics? With this controversial question, the director of the Institute of Physics, Michael Prouza, opened a discussion on the future of the popularization of physics. The debate took place on Monday, October 24, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Československý časopis pro fyziku journal in a crowded hall of the SOLID21 building, and was followed by expert lectures on the history of physics and its popularization.
In this year's VYDRA course, the organizers prepared open-solution tasks for students, focusing on general approaches used to solve research tasks. The final meeting took place in the premises of the Institute of Physics on November 1, when the students tried a presentation of the results, including a model scientific discussion.
The National Centre of Competence for MATCA, managed by the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, has won in the category of Partnerships of the Awards of Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, which are used to award the best applied research projects with a high contribution to society.
The Extreme Light Infrastructure ERIC (ELI ERIC) and Institute of Physics (FZU) of the Czech Academy of Sciences have signed agreements to integrate the Beamlines Facility into ELI ERIC. The 6th ELI ERIC General Assembly (GA) approved the agreement and endorsed key policies critical for future operations of ELI ERIC.
For the tenth year, Ondřej Haderka heads the Joint Laboratory of Optics (SLO) in Olomouc – a workplace that is operated by the Division of Optics of the Institute of Physics together with the Faculty of Sciences of the Palacky University. A place where huge mirrors for space observatories are created and astrophysics is focused on, but also where research is conducted in the field of quantum optics and lasers.
In 2022, the Institute of Physics will also be joining the Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It is an event organised by the Czech Academy of Sciences and focused on public understanding of science. As every year, the FZU will be holding an Open Doors Day as part of the Week, and is preparing a number of interesting talks and visits to laboratories covering a lot of interesting topics – from research of the universe and biophysics to lasers.
The Week of the Academy will take place from 1 to 5 November 2022
Detailed schedule of visits and talks
Two diplomas confirming the highest achievable qualification in a scientist’s career – Doctor of Sciences – has been handed over by the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová to two employees from the Institute of Physics: RNDr. Stanislav Kamba, CSc., DSc., and Mgr. Marek Taševský, Ph.D., DSc.
