PhD project: New metabolomics dimensions - subcellular and inter-organ communication
Cells communicate with each other via three main channels: juxtracrine, paracrine, and endocrine signaling. The spatiotemporal resolution represents an unexplored territory that could reveal a new layer of communication or regulation. Advances in various techniques allow us to explore communication across scales (from organelles to organs) and add new dimensions to our understanding of human diseases. The aim of the project is to develop chemical tags for subcellular metabolomics, to apply metabolic tracers labeled with stable isotopes at the level of organelles and the whole organism, and to combine them in mouse models of type 2 diabetes.
