Science Fair 2022 (author: Jana Plavec)
Get to know the nanoworld up close and discover the magic of electromagnetic radiation at the ÚFE stand. This year's Science Fair will take place on June 8-10 at the PVA EXPO Prague exhibition center in Letňany. Free entry.
A look back at the SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics 2023 Symposium
From April 24th to 27th, the SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics 2023 Symposium took place at Prague. Scientists from our Institute chaired a total of 4 conferences, and we also organized a specialized workshop on optical fibers, including a lab tour.
Working meeting of the NATO technical team
We hosted a meeting of the NATO SET-294 technical team "Advanced Mid-Infrared Laser Technology".
Meeting of the International Advisory Board of the ÚFE
A meeting of the International Advisory Board, whose members are internationally recognized foreign scientists, took place at our Kobylisy workplace on April 21st.
Ruby laser at the former Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1963)
Sixty years ago, the first lasers in Czechoslovakia were lit up, and the first university course in laser physics was launched. Let us recall at least a part of the history of Czechoslovak lasers through the memories of Jan Blabla and Viktor Trkal, who assembled the first laser amplifier already in the autumn of 1962.
Glass and Ceramics Magazine, issue 1-2/2023
The article about advancements in optical fibres by a group of authors from the Institute of Photonics and Electronics was published in the Glass and Ceramics (Sklář a keramik), a professional magazine for the glass, ceramics, and jewelry industry.

The team is engaged in the research of photonic and plasmonic (nano) structures and functional biomolecular files, the development of optical measuring methods and systems, the study of biomolecular interactions and detection of chemical and biological agents in areas such as medical diagnostics, food quality control or environmental monitoring.

Research covers the high power fiber lasers and their use for material processing, medicine and nonlinear optics.

Activities of the department are focused on the characterization of materials and structures destined for use in optoelectronics and microelectronics. Major attention has been paid to III-V materials, binaries GaP, InP, GaAs and GaSb, ternaries InGaP, AlGaAs and quaternary InGaAsP.

The team explores novel paths to future electrodynamic and electronic therapeutic and diagnostic methods in biotechnology and medicine. Team develops new theoretical methods and nanotechnology enabled experimental tools to analyze both active and passive electromagnetic properties of biomaterials from the level of molecules to tissues.

The newly established Nano Optics group focuses on advancing the knowledge of light-matter interactions below the diffraction limit of light as well as development of novel experimental methods that address current topics in biology, biophysics, and biochemistry.

Research in the Time and Frequency Department is focused on ultra-sensitive short-term frequency stability measurement at low radio frequency in ambient temperature, both in time and frequency (spectral) domains. Research also concerns applications of the dual-mixer time-difference multiplication method in accurate measurement of short time-delays in electronic components.

IPE carries out fundamental and applied research in the scientific fields of photonics, optoelectronics and electronics. In these fields, IPE generates new knowledge and develops new technologies.
