Jan Kmenta CERGE-EI Library
Established in 1992, the Jan Kmenta CERGE-EI Library has grown into a rich resource of modern economics literature, housing an extensive international collection of books, journals and databases. Today, it is considered the best library of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe and is an important regional center for library services in Economics.
The library has been enhanced by grants from the Austrian government, the Westinghouse Foundation, and through support from the University of Pittsburgh. The library benefited from support from the U.S. Agency for International Development in 2006-2011, 2012-2015 and 2017-2021. Our serial collection has been enhanced over the years through grants from Komerční banka, a.s., and the Czech National Bank.
Since 19 November, 2016, the library has borne the name of Jan Kmenta (1928-2016), one of the most influential economists of Czech origins, and the author of the internationally respected textbook Elements of Econometrics, which has been used by universities worldwide. Prof. Kmenta long served as a visiting professor at CERGE-EI and as a member of our Executive and Supervisory Committee. The Jan Kmenta Library Fund commemorates Professor Kmenta and his outstanding contributions to the CERGE-EI community.
