Studie o rukopisech

[Manuscript Studies]

Studie o rukopisech [Manuscript Studies] is a specialist codicological periodical, published since 1962. It was initiated by the Commission for the Inventory and Study of Manuscripts at the then Central Archives of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences as an independent forum for codicological studies. In addition to codicology, which is often referred to as the science of manuscripts, Studie o rukopisech is open to other auxiliary historical sciences (especially palaeography) and other disciplines involved in manuscript research (philology, art history, literary history, musicology and legal history).

Studie o rukopisech provide the latest findings on manuscript discoveries, analyses of manuscript texts and inventories of smaller manuscript collections. They also deal with library science topics, especially the history of libraries and book collections. They introduce the professional public to foreign bohemics and also deal with methodological issues. In addition to reviews of the latest codicological literature, chronicles and reports, the bibliography of domestic codicological production is a regular feature. Although Manuscript Studies is primarily a platform for Czech codicology, it is possible to publish original contributions not only in Czech but also in other languages, especially German, English or Latin. Contributions are accompanied by a short English abstract and a more extensive abstract.

Since 2009, Studie o rukopisech has been a peer-reviewed journal. All papers included in “Articles”, “Minor Articles”, “Materials”, and “Foreign Bohemica” undergo a two-way anonymous peer review process. Each paper is reviewed by two reviewers, and based on their comments, the manuscript is accepted for publication, returned to the author for revision, or rejected outright. In the case of a major revision of the manuscript, another round of review follows. The final decision to publish the manuscript is the responsibility of the journal's editorial board.

All issues of the journal are available in the Digital Library of the CAS.
