Zástupci rodu neurospora (Neurospora) patří mezi druhy hub, které mají zvláštní ekologii jako spáleništní druhy a člověka provázejí po stovky let coby kontaminanty a současně patří mezi modelové druhy studované v laboratořích. I přes desítky let intenzivního výzkumu u nich ale stále neznáme některé aspekty jejich ekologie.
