Land snails are proverbially slow and therefore cannot escape from fires. However, there is some evidence of their survival, especially outside the epicenters of burning Mediterranean vegetation. Snail communities can return to their original state as quickly as the local vegetation. This is helped both by their estivation and hidden way of life.
