Department of Spintronics and Nanoelectronics was founded in 2007. Its aim is to combine experimental expertise with a capacity of modern technological labs and with theory. The Department has established its position among world’s leading groups in the research of ferromagnetic semiconductors, relativistic spin-transport phenomena including the anomalous and spin Hall effects, linear and higher-order magnetoresistance, and current-induced spin-torques in ferromagnets and antiferromagnets. In 2011, the Department established a joint Laboratory of Opto-Spintronics with the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University, specializing in ultrafast spin dynamics studied by pump-probe magneto-optical techniques. Apart from research, the staff members are active in training undergraduate and graduate students and in technology transfer.
