Abstract

Dr. Eva Maria Martins dos Santos of the FZU received the Auger Impact Award 2023 on November 17 in recognition of the outstanding efforts on Monte-Carlo simulation coordination, which has a tremendous impact on the results published by the Pierre Auger Observatory but is not necessarily visible, and for her extremely responsive and service oriented attitude.

Exceptional success of student Anna Radochová and the Open Science programme

Abstract

Anna Radochová, a talented high school student, won the first prize in the České hlavičky 2023 competition in the UNIVERSUM category. Anna's successful research project was motivated by her participation in the Open Science programme at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where she worked on the topic "Properties of new photosensitive liquid crystals".

A Brief Note on Nobel Prize for Physics 2022

Today the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences has announced the Nobel Prize for Physics will go to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger. Their victory is unexpected but utterly deserved: All three laureates have made a substantial contribution to significant scientific progress in several ways.

Researchers J. Chýla and I. Pelant have accepted the Ernst Mach Honorary Medals for Merit in Physical Science

Abstract

Today the Honorary Medals have been handed over by the president of the Czech Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová. The recipients were 11 researchers honoured for their long-lasting contribution to science by the Czech Academy of Sciences. The laureates included two researchers from the Institute of Physics, prof. Jiří Chýla, CSc. and prof. RNDr. Ivan Pelant, DrSc.

Winners of the high school science competition have been presented their awards by the FZU director

Abstract

Coilgun, observation and processing of miner planet occultation using CMOS cameras or determination of the atomic structure of surfaces using ion scattering - these are the winning works in the field of physics of the 44th year of the national showcase of high school scientific activities. The students were presented their awards by the FZU director Michael Prouza and his deputy Antonín Fejfar.
