The COMPASS Upgrade tokamak at EXPO 2020 in Dubai

The Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences has been exhibiting the educative model of the COMPASS Upgrade tokamak at the World Exhibition Expo 2020 in the Czech pavilion in Dubai since 14 February 2022.

The rotating exhibition “Energy the smart way” presents smart energy starting from its acquisition through its storage to its use. The smart energy exposition will last until the end of February. The unique features of the COMPASS Upgrade tokamak will be the ability to confine plasma using the high magnetic field of magnitude 5T and to generate the plasma current up to 2 000 000 A while the vacuum chamber will achieve temperatures up to 500oC. This scientific infrastructure currently under construction at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the CAS will be devoted to plasma physics research and development of fusion technologies for the first fusion power plants.
