From Friday, 1st October, Pavel Peterka becomes a new director of IPE. He was appointed as Director of the research institute by the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences Eva Zažímalová.
Pavel Peterka wants to preserve continuity of 9-year-work of Jiří Homola who was elected to the Academy Council in March 2021 and therefore resigned from the post of the Director.
The Institute will be, actually, handed over by Pavel Honzátko who was charged to lead the Institute till the new Director would be elected in selection procedure and duly appointed.
Pavel Peterka takes up his duties with the vision to preserve the utmost continuity with present conception of management and development of the Institute. One of his main goals is to maintain the outstanding quality of the IPE research and its high international recognition.
Pavel Peterka has been working in the Institute since 1993. He is a member of the Fiber Lasers and Non-linear Optics research team and his main focus is in research of optical lasers and amplifiers, special optical fibers and optical fiber parts. During his research career he gained an international experience in France or Germany, he was and still is, a member of many research projects and organizations, e.g. his membership in the Executive Board of the European Action COST MP1401 focused on optical lasers, his chairmanship of the International Training School on Fibre Lasers & Optical Fibre Technology or his chairmainship of the Micro-structured and Specialty Optical Fibres Conference, which is a part of the SPIE Optics+Optoelectronics a SPIE Photonics Europe Symposium.
He is also active in popularization of science - being an expert quarantor of the episode How Internet Works in the science popularizing series of the Academy of Sciences "NEZkreslená věda". He appeared in a program of the Czech Television "Toulavá kamera speciál - Toulky Českem budoucnosti" (Wandering Camera - Wandering through the Czech Future). He is an author of more than hundred scientific publications.
