HR AWARD
The Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IBP) acquired the Human Resources Excellence in Research Award (HR AWARD)
The Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IBP) was founded in the year 1955 and became an important part of the research infrastructure in Czechoslovakia and later also in the Czech Republic as a part of the main scientific extracurricular research institution, the Czech Academy of Sciences. Scientists work here as researchers in many areas of biomedical research. They focus mainly on basic research but also strive to find new applications of their findings in practice. Presently, the Institute of Biophysics has more than 200 workers, among domestic workers also workers from eight countries from around the world (France, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, Iran, Mexico and Ukraine).
At IBP, 21 research teams work in ten research departments and furthermore there is one service laboratory.
The government of IBP continually strives to improve the working conditions of not only research workers but also workers, who secure economic administration of the Institute as well as technical-administrative support of scientists. Efforts are undertaken to comply with the principles set forth by the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (the Charter and Code), to which IBP adheres. In connection with the aforementioned, on the 29 th of April 2020 a letter declaring commitment thereto was sent by the government of IBP to the European Commission, whereby the government of IBP commenced the steps to fulfil the conditions to acquire prestigious award granted by the European Commission for excellency in care for human resources in research environment, the Human Resources Excellence in Research Award (HR AWARD), which in research sector represents a guarantee of European standard of care for employees, openness and transparency of recruitment process and quality of working environment.
On November 30, 2021, we have officially joined the family of research organizations awarded by HR Excellence in Research that shows progress in harmonizing our HR policy in line with 40 principles of the C&C. In the first 2 years we have proceeded according the Action Plan slightly revised according to the recommendations of the EC Consensus Report. In December 2023, we have sent an Internal Review, e.i. a report about the implementation of the Action Plan during 2 years and a new Revised Action Plan for the next period (2024-2026) (see Implementation). These documents have been evaluated in the frame of the Interim Assessment by EC with the best possible results "HRS4R Embedded" (see Interim Assessment - EC Concensus Report).
Main scientific objectives regarding the implementation of the HR Award at IBP:
- Achievement of excellence in research;
- Establishment of broader personal cooperation with universities regarding education of students;
- Establishment of international scientific cooperation;
- Performance of expert activities for practice.
Main objectives within implementation of the HR Award at IBP:
- Increasing the probability of granting domestic and international projects;
- Strengthening of domestic and international prestige of IBP;
- Improvement of care for human resources;
- Improvement of work/life balance of employees at IBP;
- Improvement of recruitment of new scientific workers;
- Setting better employment benefits;
- Support of families of scientific workers with children.

The HR department helps to ensure the needs of employees during their life cycle at BFU (selection, employment, hiring of workers, evaluation, needs arising during employment, benefits administration, mobility, further education, professional growth). The HR department mainly deals with urgent problems (feelings of discrimination, issues of benefits, changes in personal situation - e.g. the need to adjust working hours when caring for a child or infirmities, issues of further possible growth, assessment of own performance and classification).

RESOLUTION OF THE DIRECTOR - HR Award Working Group (.pdf)
The working group was involved in solving individual activities in such a way that some members of this group were in charge of each activity (see "Report for 2022-23" for each activity). In the next period, we will proceed in the same way, i.e. new activities will be in charge of some members of the new working group.
