Mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of selected biologically active water pollutants
The aim is to obtain a detailed description of the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of the most important biologically active water pollutants, e.g. selected drugs. The obtained kinetic data will enable to determine the reaction mechanisms, by which intermediates are transformed into stable final products. Further, the study is aimed at the determination of the effect of other substances present in purified water on the kinetics of pollutant degradation and the search for ways how to minimize the potential negative effect. The study includes the isolation of the most important intermediates using preparative chromatography, the identification of their structure using advanced analytical techniques and the assessment of their potential toxicity.
