Based on expert knowledge, this popularizing guide to the hospital complex in Kuks, consisting of the Church of the Holy Trinity and the former monastery hospital, outlines the well-known historical facts about this important monument of the Bohemian Baroque, founded by Count Franz Anton von Sporck at the turn of the eighteenth century. However, the book also presents several unpublished archival findings on the further development of the architectural ensemble, which spread on both banks of the Elbe River at the end of the eighteenth century and in the nineteenth century. This is followed by an overall analysis of the unusual urbanistic and landscaping concept, individual buildings, and sculptural decoration, as well as an assessment of the art-historical development of the complex and a detailed description and analysis of its artistic furnishings, often supplemented by new, previously unpublished findings. The book contains 38 images of the hospital’s present state and historical documentation, including archival plans, bios of the individual architects and builders who gradually gave the complex its final form, and an index of sources and literature.
