Ultrasensitive nanoscopy, awareness of endangered species, a controversial figure in Arab culture, the improvement of turbines and defense processes in treetops – these are the topics of scientists who were honored by the Czech Academy of Sciences on November 14, 2022. The prize for the extraordinary results of research, experimental development and innovation achieved with the support of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic was also won by Marek Piliarik's team from the ÚFE. The award was presented at a ceremony in a main building on Národní třída in Prague by the chairman, Eva Zažímalová.
Marek Piliarik, head of the Nano-optics research team, developed a photothermal spatial light modulator for ultra-sensitive 3D nanoscopy with his scientific team. The new method, which received a Czech national patent, has direct applicability. Scientists can use it, for example, in modern imaging techniques and in super-resolution microscopy.
Along with Mark Piliarik, other members of his team also won the award: colleagues from the Institute Kristýna Holanová, Łukasz Bujak, Milan Vala, Hadrien Robert from the Sorbonne University, as well as Verena Puttrich and Zdeněk Lánský from the Institute of Biotechnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and BIOCEV.
