Problematika lesních požárů v poslední době pronikla za hranice čistě vědeckého zájmu a stala se námětem široké společenské diskuze. Článek se pokouší zasadit současné požárové události do kontextu dlouhodobé dynamiky požárů v ekosystémech střední Evropy. Zaměřuje se na důležité faktory, které regulují výskyt a chování ohně v krajině, a odhaluje zásadní podíl lidí na řízení požárové aktivity v holocénu.

Forest fires are currently the subject of increasing scientific interest and public debate. This paper attempts to place recent fire events in the context of long-term fire dynamics in Central European ecosystems. It focuses on the important factors that regulate fire occurrence and behaviour in the landscape and highlights the fundamental contribution of humans to the control of fire activity in the Holocene.
