Jakub Steiner has been a Senior Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He has also been a member of the Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE-EI. Jakub was an Associate Professor at CERGE-EI from 2013 to 2022, and has also been affiliated with the University of Zurich. After completing his Ph.D. in Economics at CERGE-EI, New York, and Charles University, and an M.A. in Physics at Charles University, Jakub was a Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and an Assistant Professor at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Jakub has been publishing in flagship journals such as the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Theory, Theoretical Economics, and Games and Economic Behavior. He worked as a social worker for a Roma community, where he developed his interest in the economics of social exclusion. The Czech Academy of Sciences awarded him the J. E. Purkyně Fellowship.
Research Orientation:
Game theory and economic theory. He studies behavior in strategic situations with the possibility of self-fulfilling prophecies such as those that arise during currency attacks, bank runs, and revolutions
