Institute characteristics
The main mission of the Institute of Geonics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IGN) is the scientific research of processes in the Earth's crust induced by anthropogenic activities and their effects on the environment and social aspects. The emphasis is placed on related research into materials and advanced technologies. Other disciplines are also developed as part of the research, namely applied mathematics and physics, chemistry, environmental and social geography, computer science and engineering. Particular attention is paid to the development and research of high-speed fluid jets. The research activities carried out range from highly specialized to multidisciplinary research that transcends the boundaries of individual scientific fields.
In accordance with the Legal Status and the Foundation Deed, the Institute:
- contributes significantly to improving levels of scientific knowledge and education;
- contributes to utilising the results of scientific research;
- acquires, processes, and disseminates scientific information, provides scientific assessments, professional opinions and recommendations;
- carries out doctoral study programs in cooperation with universities and provides training for young scientists;
- promotes international cooperation in the field of research activities and development of technologies;
- achieves its scientific objectives in cooperation with other scientific and professional institutions;
- provides the infrastructure for research, development and innovation.
In fulfilling its mission, the IGN relies on the creative potential of its employees, the continuity of the research teams and the effective use of the gradually innovated research infrastructures.
