What does the HR Excellence in Research Award bring us? The standards we are gradually setting help to improve working conditions, win prestigious grants, and support talented colleagues. They enable us to build strong and motivated work teams that contribute to the development of science and innovation at the local, European, and global levels through their results.

HIRING AND SELECTION
  • Our selection procedures are open, transparent and merit-based, which ensures that our new colleagues are hired based on their abilities and experience. 
  • Experienced HR Partners support our managers during the whole selection procedure, thus allowing them to dedicate more time to their research activities. 
  • With the contribution of HR Award activities, we are working to build an employer brand that helps us attract the best talents in the field. 

 

ONBOARDING AND WELCOME OFFICE
  • During their first days and weeks, we provide our new colleagues with all the necessary support. New employees are given comprehensive and complete information, their HR Partner guides them through the onboarding process and answers all the questions.
  • We help our foreign employees with relocation, accommodation, and paperwork. We also provide information on obtaining the visa, health insurance, and other advice on getting used to the life in Czechia.

 

EMPLOYEE EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK
  • We have implemented a regular annual feedback and employee evaluation. We encourage managers to provide feedback, giving each employee the opportunity to have an open conversation with their supervisor about the past work period and their next career progression. 
  • We support and educate managers in conducting evaluation interviews. As a result, we improve the coordination of working relations within teams and departments and create room for discussion on priorities and tasks for the coming period. 
INTEGRITY AND ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
  • We encourage healthy work relations and create appropriate working conditions for our employees, ensuring a safe work environment and fair approach.
  • We offer our employees support and consultation in case of uncomfortable work relationships or ethical questions.
  • We are actively spreading awareness of the topics of ethical behaviour, bullying prevention, and improving working conditions and relations.

 

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND DIVERSITY
  • Our goal is to create equal opportunities for all employees, we support diversity and inclusive environment throughout different cultural and social groups. We are committed to making every employee feel comfortable and safe.
  • We have created the Equality and Diversity Panel which implements the Equality and Diversity Plan. Its aim is to support work-life balance, equal opportunities and gender balance in leadership and decision-making, or prevent gender-based violence at workplace. 

 

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
  • We tend to the development of our employees and prepare training programmes for different groups of employees so that everyone can choose according to their needs and interests. When preparing our training offer, we base it on the needs of our employees as well as on current trends and needs of the FZU.
  • We provide tailored support for managers in their leadership skills, and we run a talent programme for aspiring managers. We also do not forget about junior scientists and employees in the field of administration and technical administration. 
SCIENCE OUTREACH
  • Our PR and science outreach team is responsible for communicating the results of our activities to the general public. 
  • With the help of our employees, we bring our research to a wide audience at various popularization events. We prepare reports for the media, we have created a modern FZU website and manage the FZU photo bank.
  • We use the newly renovated foyer and hall at Slovanka as a visitor centre for school field trips, who discover the beauty of physics thanks to our fog chamber, superconducting train and other interactive aids. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • We are gradually improving and modernising the working environment and making sure our employees feel comfortable.
  • We have established flexible working arrangements, such as flexible working hours or working from home, and encourage part-time work. We have set up visitors’ rooms for children that allow our employees to come to work even when they need to take care of their children.
  • We also look after the well-being of our employees, offering yoga classes twice a week at the workplace and having built a new terrace with a winter garden for relaxation and coffee making. 

 

OBTAINING GRANTS

 

OPEN ACCESS
  • We support the principles of Open Access to scientific information, and we are constantly looking for new ways to introduce other Open Science principles into the practice. 
  • We regularly inform our employees and provide training on current trends in the field of publishing results and data in the OA mode and in the field of copyright.  Our OA specialist also provides our scientists and researchers with advisory services in the field of Open Access. 

 

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
  • We support the use of research and development results from FZU in industry and other scientific institutions. We cooperate with industrial partners on both domestic and international projects. 
  • We provide patent, legal and business support to our employees, regularly providing them with information and training in the field of technology transfer. 

 

GRANT SUPPORT
  • We have built a grant office that provides support to all FZU applicants for national and international grants and informs about current calls, conferences and seminars. The office also organises in-house seminars and workshops and provides consultation in the preparation of grant applications, including review of projects and budgets. 
  • We have become a member of EARMA, the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators, and CZARMA, its Czech equivalent. We deliver lectures to professional community and teach at summer schools.
