The Institute of Physics is launching an Alumni Club for those who want to stay informed about what is happening at the Institute.
Were you employed by the Institute of Physics and want to keep in touch with FZU and your colleagues?
It doesn't matter if you are now working at another institution, finishing your studies or retired; we appreciate everyone who has been a part of FZU. The aim of the Alumni Club is to connect, so the club is open to anyone who has a friendly relationship with FZU. Alumni Club membership gives you the opportunity to reconnect with the Institute of Physics through newsletters, events, etc.
Activities
The Institute of Physics is preparing a number of news and events for Alumni Club members.
Were you there when FZU celebrated its 20th or 50th anniversary? Celebrate FZU 70 with us!
The Alumni Club members have an open door to all events taking place on the occasion of 70 years of the Institute of Physics.
- A festive social gathering to celebrate 70 years of FZU.
- Talk about the history of the Institute.
- Thematic lectures that will present the history, present and future vision for the main research directions pursued at the Institute of Physics.
Further Alumni Club activities are still in the planning stages, but we would appreciate if you would sign up now. In the application form you will find a list of possible activities and by filling it in you will help us in deciding which ones to pursue.
I am interested in membership
Please complete a short application form: I want to apply
Are you in contact with anyone who has also been part of the FZU? We'd love for you to let them know about the Alumni Club.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Alumni Club?
-
Alumni clubs are traditional associations of alumni of educational institutions, especially in Anglo-Saxon countries (the first club was founded by alumni in 1821 in Massachusetts, USA). Gradually, alumni clubs and programmes have also been established by companies and, more recently, by research institutions to keep in touch with former staff and establish possible future collaborations.
Although in the Czech language, the term alumnus/alumni also refers to alumnae, i.e. students of a theological seminary, we now use it in its more common meaning, i.e. alumnus/former employee.
- Who can apply?
-
The Alumni Club is open to everyone who has a friendly relationship with the Institute of Physics, especially:
- former employees and retired employees
- former colleagues from FZU who are already working at other organizations
- students who have been on a high school/university internship at FZU, or who have written their thesis with a supervisor from FZU
You can apply even if you do not belong to any of the categories above. In that case, please tell us a little more about yourself and why you want to be part of the Alumni Club in the application form.
- Is there any membership fee?
-
There is no fee for membership in the FZU Alumni Club and we do not plan to charge for it.
However, it is possible that some events will have a voluntary or symbolic entrance fee to cover the cost of refreshments, etc.
- Do I have any responsibilities as a member of the Alumni Club?
-
As a member of the FZU Alumni Club you have no obligations.
Membership can be completely passive - in this case, we will only send you news from FZU/Alumni program and invitations to Alumni events.
You can get involved in Alumni Club activities as you see fit or as it suits you - whether it be occasional participation in events (meeting colleagues, excursions to labs) or involvement in more regular activities, e.g. as a mentor/mentee in the FZU mentoring program.
- Why should I join the Alumni Club?
-
Through the Alumni Programme we offer, in particular, ongoing contact with the Institute of Physics. Science is all about collaboration, so we are happy to stay in touch even if you are no longer working at FZU.
In the Alumni Programme, we will regularly inform you about news from the FZU and you will have the opportunity to visit us and see your colleagues again at upcoming events.
If you are an active researcher, you might be interested to know that among the activities considered for the Alumni Programme are mini-grants for you or your students to cover the costs of attending conferences organised by FZU or short-term stays to establish/deepen cooperation with FZU.
We also welcome you if you have been to FZU as a student on an internship or if you have worked on your graduate school thesis in collaboration/supervision with FZU colleagues. We will be happy to inform you about other opportunities to collaborate with FZU or how to become a mentor or mentee in our mentoring programme.
Last but not least, the Alumni Program is for anyone who has a strong relationship with the Institute of Physics and wants to continue to support us.
However, we are only just getting started with the Alumni Programme - so if there is an activity you would like to see, we would be delighted if you could let us know about it on the application form or by emailing us at alumni [at] fzu [dot] cz.
- What personal data will FZU keep?
-
If you join the Alumni Club, we will keep the following personal data in our internal membership list:
- name and surname,
- your email address,
- the department/division in which you worked at FZU,
- your current organisation/location (if you let us know).
By submitting the application form, you agree that the Institute of Physics of the CAS, v. v. i. will inform you about the activities it organizes within the "Alumni" program and for the purpose of sending you invitations and other information about these activities, process your personal data mentioned above. This personal data may be disclosed to authorized employees of the Institute of Physics of the CAS only to the extent necessary for processing. Consent is granted for the duration of the Alumni programme and can be withdrawn at any time by contacting alumni [at] fzu [dot] cz.
If other activities arise within the Alumni Club in the future that will require different handling of your personal data or their extension (for example, providing a mailing address for sending physical materials or sharing contacts in the database among Alumni Club members), any such change will be subject to your consent, which we will always ask you for.
- How do I cancel my participation in the Alumni Program?
-
You can cancel your membership at any time by sending an email to alumni [at] fzu [dot] cz from the address you are registered with the Alumni Club under. Membership is also terminated if you withdraw your consent to the processing of personal data.
