The objective of the EXCELES program (Program for the Support of Excellent Research in Priority Areas of Public Interest in the Health Sector) is to learn from the unprecedented challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It aims to increase the capability of research capacities in selected priority areas of research and development and innovation (R&D&I) to respond to current trends and needs in R&D&I related to major diseases and the social and economic impact of systemic health risks associated with them.

The project entitled "National Institute for Research on the Socioeconomic Impact of Diseases and Systemic Risks" (registration number LX22NPO5101; 2022 - 2025) focuses on social science and related disciplines specifically targeting the social and economic impacts of systemic health risks, including pandemics of the COVID-19 type, i.e. collectively addressing the following issues of:

  1. The functioning of public administration, communication of public administration with the public and the behaviour of society in of health risk situations,
  2. The effectiveness of health care, lifestyle and other socio-economic determinants of health risks
  3. Economic recovery from health or security crises in terms of economic policy, the labour market and unemployment, human capital and education, and addressing the increase in poverty.

The Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education - Economics Institute participates in the project within the work package "Social impacts of the pandemic and the labour market", led by doc.
