In recent years, the Institute of Computer Science has collaborated with more than 70 entities from the commercial and public spheres. Among others, for example with:

Fakultní Thomayerova Nemocnice

Our Department of Statistical Modeling collaborated with Thomayer University Hospital during the years 2021-2023 on a project aiming to enhance the rehabilitation process for patients who suffered from stroke. Our role was to develop methods and tools for collecting and analysing the measurement data.

Magistrát hlavního města Prahy

The department of the complex systems at ICS collaborates with the City of Prague on high-fidelity meteorological and air pollution simulations. Principal areas of interest are located in Holešovice, Dejvice and Nové město. These comprehensive simulations of selected locations represent a valuable source of unique information for the urban planning and future development of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. This cooperation presents a practical example of advanced and modern techniques reflecting "smart city" approaches.

NET4GAS, s.r.o.

NET4GAS provides international and domestic transportation of natural gas in the Czech Republic. It also takes care of the quality and reliability of the transmission system. The cooperation between the Institute of Informatics of the CAS and NET4GAs consisted in statistical analysis of the provided data with a view to early detection of possible faults in the distribution network.

AVAST Software s.r.o.

Founded in 1988, AVAST (now part of the multinational company Gen Digital) is a prominent cybersecurity firm known for its antivirus software. The Institute of Computer Science provided expertise in complex networks, which contributed to the development of innovative solutions aimed at protecting internet users from online threats.

Our collaboration with AVAST focused on analysing the behaviour of individual malware in networks, a crucial step in ensuring cybersecurity. Through our joint efforts, we developed methods to identify malicious entities in complex networks, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of AVAST's antivirus solutions. Given that cyber threats pose significant risks to both corporate and individual users, this work plays an essential role in improving the overall cybersecurity of society.

ČEPS, a.s.

ČEPS, the Czech Republic's transmission system operator, ensures safe electricity transmission. Amidst AI's growing role, ČEPS plans AI integration. Ethical challenges are addressed responsibly; a study by the Institute of Computer Science outlines an ethical framework for AI regulation in the power industry, emphasizing value-sensitive design.
Additionally, an ethical decalogue and an article in PRO-ENERGY magazine provide practical guidance for ČEPS in AI implementation and usage: https://www.ceps.cz/cs/ceps-v-mediich/novinka/etika-ai-prakticke-uvahy-nejen-v-energetice

Ball Beverage Packaging s.r.o.

In collaboration with the Institute of Informatics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Ball is conducting an in-depth analysis of production line data to implement a machine learning system for predictive productivity and maintenance. This initiative aims to minimize scrap production, thereby reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability.

CERMAT (centrum pro zjišťování výsledků vzdělávání)

CERMAT is the Czech Center for the Assessment of Education Outcomes, responsible for organizing and evaluating the national high school leaving exam, known as Maturita. Through a grant from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR), CERMAT partnered with the Institute of Computer Science to perform statistical analysis on the exam's test sets. The collaboration aimed to develop a custom software that assesses the difficulty level of the Maturita exam, which changes each year, to ensure a more accurate evaluation of ~100 000 students each year.
