Miroslav Singer has been a Research Associate at CERGE-EI since 2020. Previously a Researcher at the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education (CERGE), Charles University, 2016-2019. Appointed a member of the Czech National Bank's Board and Vice-Governor 2005-2010, and the Czech National Bank's Governor 2010-2016. He won the Central Bank Governor of the Year for Emerging Europe 2013 award presented by the Emerging Markets magazine, as well as the Central Banker of the Year in Europe award for 2014, which he received from the renowned monthly The Banker. Under his leadership, the Czech National Bank won the prestigious Central Banking Transparency Award 2015 for its openness and use of new communication tools.
After graduating in mathematical methods in economics from the University of Economics in Prague (1991), Miroslav Singer obtained a postgraduate fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed his thesis and was awarded PhD in 1995. He has published articles in the daily and professional press, including the Review of Economics and Statistics, Economics of Transition and the Journal of Comparative Economics, and has contributed chapters to books issued by publishers such as Academic Press London and the Lappeenranta University of Technology. As a participant at specialist conferences and in his lectures, he has also dealt with issues such as transformation, growth, the European currency, bankruptcy legislation and corporate governance.
