RNDr. Michael Prouza, Ph.D., was elected the director of the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in 2017.

Focusing on astroparticle physics, Michael Prouza is a leading specialist in cosmic rays. He is an active member of global collaborations in the fields of particle physics and astronomy such as Pierre Auger Observatory or Cherenkov Telescope Array, in which he was a member of the Publication and Conference Committee in 2011-2014. Since 2015, he has been a representative of the Czech Republic in its Administration and Financial Committee. Additionally, he is the representative of the Czech Republic in the Rubin Observatory project (original name: Large Synoptic Survey Telescope).
Michael Prouza has been a long-term member of the Academic Assembly of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Council for Cosmic Activities of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Council of the Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In 2015 he was elected a member of the Council for Scientific Activities of the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Education and Sport of the Czech Republic and is participating in the Committee for Scientific Activities of the Cosmic Activities Coordination Council of the Ministry of Transport. He is a special member of the Scientific Committee of the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) and the chairman of the Astropis association.
