Jan Švejnar Participates in the GLOBSEC Forum 2024

30 August, 2024

The 19th edition of the GLOBSEC Forum, one of Europe’s foremost dialogue platforms, takes place in Prague from 30 August to 1 September 2024 under the auspices of President Petr Pavel.

The forum will convene leaders from government, business, academia and NGOs to devise strategies to tackle the myriad of challenges we currently face and those that lie ahead.

Professor Jan Švejnar (CERGE-EI and School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University) will be a guest speaker at the panel Ask the Experts: Optimising Economic Policies for Global Challenges together with Beata Javorcik, Chief Economist, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; Debora Revoltella, Chief Economist, European Investment Bank, and Maciej Witucki, President, Polish Confederation Lewiatan and Member of the Board of Directors, GLOBSEC.

The panel, led by Vazil Hudák, Former Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, will focus on the persistently recurring inflationary pressures in various regions and the strategies central banks are employing to manage inflation expectations. Discussions will cover the efficacy of recent monetary policy adjustments, the potential need for further interest rate hikes or cuts, the impacts of global supply chain disruptions, and the competitiveness of the EU in today's realities. Addressing inflation remains a critical concern for central banks, especially in regions where it has been stubbornly high, such as Eastern Europe and parts of Asia.

You can follow the panel discussion live on the 30th of August at 16.15 to 17:05 on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/live/D_f96sIo_j0

Following the panel discussion, Professor Švejnar will also be a guest at the GLOBSEC Award Ceremony 2024 on Friday, 30 August in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle. This prestigious event features a decorous gala presentation for the Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Award, a joint initiative by GLOBSEC and its Czech partner organization Jagello 2000. The biannual Czech and Slovak Transatlantic Award is bestowed upon those who have significantly contributed to freedom and democracy and to strengthening the transatlantic relations.
