17 June, 2024
Charles University has 23 new professors as of last week. One of them is CERGE-EI's Associate Professor with Tenure Michal Bauer. Our sincere congratulations!
On 13 June, 2024, a total of 75 new professors, 23 of them from Charles University, received their decrees from the President of the Republic Petr Pavel and Mikuláš Bek, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports during a ceremony at the Carolinum – the historic heart of Charles University.
Michal Bauer has been an Associate Professor with Tenure (under US permanent charter) at CERGE-EI and a member of the Executive and Supervisory Committee of CERGE-EI since 2017. He has also been a Professor at CERGE, Charles University since 2024 and a Senior Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (EI). In addition, he is affiliated with the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University, IZA and CEPR. He was granted the ’’Doctor of Sciences’’ degree in 2024.
His research spans behavioural economics, development economics and experimental economics. The unifying motivation is to shed light on “behavioural” mechanisms that may contribute to pressing social issues, including poverty, discrimination and violent inter-group conflicts. To do so, he conducts field experiments in relevant settings, often in disadvantaged communities. His research appeared in number of leading journals, including American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Nature or PNAS.
