IOCB Boston

IOCB Prague is establishing its first international branch in Boston, Massachusetts, US. This expansion demonstrates the Institute’s commitment to advancing scientific research globally. The move marks the first of its kind in the history of Czech science.

The decision to expand IOCB Prague’s operations overseas is motivated by the fact that Boston and Cambridge form a global biotechnology hub, home to over 1,000 biotech companies and more than 50 colleges and universities. For years, Boston has ranked #1 in the US for NIH funding, receiving over $2.7 billion annually for cutting-edge research.

The first research group to find a home in the new facility will be led by biologist Dr. David Sabatini, a leading expert on cell growth and metabolism. Dr. Sabatini will continue leading his research group at IOCB Prague while simultaneously building the infrastructure of his new lab in the United States.

Plans are underway to expand IOCB Boston in the near future through the addition of more research laboratories.

IOCB Boston, located in Cambridge, MA, will become operational on 18 October 2024.

By connecting the scientific communities of Prague and Boston, IOCB Prague aims to create a relationship that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, and new research opportunities. Our Boston location will help us attract skilled researchers and offer our scientists further chances for professional development.
