Roman Pleskot: what is going on in plant cells is better than an action movie

The Czech Academy of Sciences published on its website a large profile interview with our young scientist Roman Pleskot. What fascinates him about the dynamic processes inside plant cells? And why did he choose their research over basketball and visual arts?

The interview was initially written for the popular science magazine A / Science and Research, published by the Czech Academy of Sciences. In the summer of 2023, the Academy also published it on its internet site where you can read its English translation.

In 2021, Roman Pleskot was awarded the prestigious JUNIOR STAR grant for the best early career scientists. Thanks to this grant, he has built the Laboratory of Integrative Structural Biology at our Prague facility. He and his team investigate molecular processes associated with plant cell division.

In the interview, he talks enthusiastically about his research in the lab and on the computer which he uses for mathematical modelling of biological molecules and their interactions. He also tells the editor Radka Římanová a few things about his hobbies – basketball and painting.
