Tech transfer
Commercialization of the results of our research
One of the strategic goals of IOCB Prague is to systematically commercialize and transfer the outcomes of basic research into products that contribute to a better life. The institute also has a long and successful tradition in this field.
Since 2010, all activities related to transferring research results into practice – along with applications and intellectual property issues – have been coordinated by the institute’s subsidiary IOCB Tech (originally founded as IOCB TTO). In 2017, another subsidiary, i&i Prague, was established by IOCB Tech to represent the institute in spin‑offs arising from IOCB research but also scout for projects with innovative potential outside IOCB and provide them pre‑seed financing.
These companies are considered leading experts in the Czech Republic in the field of biotechnology. They have been successful in attracting both local and global investors.
For applied research, a specialized research infrastructure has also been built. It comprises several internal spin-offs – called SWAT teams – and targeted research groups that focus on advancing promising scientific results to a stage where they can be offered to commercial partners, particularly pharmaceutical companies, with a good chance of success.
